Men's Mountain Bike
Getting the Most Out of a
Men's Mountain Bike
One of the most common complaints heard when it comes to a men's mountain bike is that although
it looks just like everybody else's the rider just does not seem to get the same performance out of it as the other
guys do. In most cases this has very little to do with the actual bike and a lot more to do with the actual
selection process that was used to arrive at ownership.

While many men's mountain bikes look similar and in some cases a man might buy one that is identical to
his buddy's there is no guarantee that it will perform the same way for two different riders. An adult mountain bike is a very individual thing, what might be
right for one rider may not work at all for another. When selecting a mountain bike it is OK to look at what
other are riding but the decision should still based on individual needs and riding style.

The perfect example of this is choosing the right size in a men's mountain bike, if it is too
big or small for you then you will not enjoy your ride. It is like buying a pair of shoes, your feet are a
particular size if you buy the wrong size shoe they will not fit and if you buy the wrong size bike it will not fit
either.
You need to talk to a salesman at your local bike store who can show you how to choose the right
size bike before you waste your money.
Selecting the right set of mountain bike gears for your new men's mountain bike can make a world
of difference. Here this is a very personal decision. Gear ratios can be adjusted to suit the conditions you ride
under and other factors like the length of your legs and your weight.
By picking the right set of gears you can make a major difference in the way you and your bike
perform together.
Another consideration that you should think about when comparing bikes is the type of tyres that
you plan to use. Mountain bike tyres are not like those found on the
ordinary street bike, they are generally knobbier and made with much wider tread areas to help grip into the mud
and dirt on the way down the mountain for better control.
Depending on the conditions you are riding in you will need to choose between hard and soft
compounds as these can make a huge difference in how well you grip the trail on the way down.
Mountain bike rims are usually somewhat larger than other bikes often in the 26 to 29 inch range
to help keep the frame higher off of the ground for better clearance over rough terrain and obstacles.
Spokes have always been a popular choice for bike rims as they can be tuned and adjusted for
slight warps and damage caused by the constant abuse.
Recently however alloy wheels have become more popular as they tend to be significantly lighter
and stronger than traditional spokes.
Choosing the best men's mountain bike for you is a matter of looking at all of the options and
assessing how you ride, even if you choose used mountain bikes.
Then look at your size and pick the best setup to suit your needs, if you do this then you will
have a mountain bike that will perform as well as you think it should.
