When it comes to parts for mountain bikes there are some that you just cannot afford to
buy the most inexpensive ones on the shelf. While every part on the bike must work together to ensure a fun ride,
parts like mountain bike frames, the wheels, brakes and tires are directly related to your
safety. If any of these fails while you are riding at full speed down the mountain you are likely to end up in a
very nasty accident that could land you in the hospital or worse.
Tires and brakes are probably the most important parts on a mountain bike as they are your
direct contact with the ground and your stopping ability. If for some reason your tires fail you could end up at
the very least with a long walk back to your car and at the worst skidding out of control and crashing. Brake
failure can leave you careening down the mountainside unable to stop until you hit something and the sudden stop
can be quite painful.
While not something that many people think about in terms of safety, poor quality mountain bike
forks can cause lots of trouble if they break. When a person is riding a mountain bike it usually involves lots of
jumping over rough terrain and bouncing around on the way down the trail. If the front forks were to break after
coming down from a jump the rider could be thrown over the handlebars and end up being sent down hill or into a
tree. This can result in some very nasty injuries or in worst case scenario someone could be killed.
The seat, ot the bicycle saddles is also considered a safety item as you spend a fair amount of time with
your backside planted on it. If the seat should break off of the post that it is mounted to, the rider could
become impaled on the post with some very unpleasant consequences. Basically every part of your mountain bike
has some direct effect on your riding safety and should be purchased with this in mind.
On some bikes it is OK to buy inexpensive parts as they will not be subject to the amount of
stress and strain that a mountain bike does on a regular basis. When you have to buy parts for your mountain bike it always pays to buy the very best that you can afford to make sure that every
time you go out for a ride you have the safest ride you can. Buying cheap parts for your mountain bike is not a
safe option and if you cannot afford good parts you should not ride again until you can for your own safety.
